Opening — This Morning's 11,743 Steps, Starting Again

Hualien's blue morning sky

This morning's 11,743 steps, this time as a slow jog.
Along the familiar path, watching the mountains, the trees, Hualien's blue sky.

These past two years, we've been quiet for a while. Teresa took care of me, and I slowly recovered, step by step.

Day by day, Hualien has been healing too. From ten thousand steps a day, to hiking the nearby hills, to slow jogging — I'm ready now, unhurried, to return to the role I love most: host of Errantry Lodge.

No need for explanations. Let this photo from the White Cloud Trail, and these few words, say everything:

We're still here.

Hualien is still the Hualien you remember, and we're still here waiting for you.

One day, I hope to run the Taroko Marathon alongside our guests.
